Micky Papa does it again as Jackalope Mississauga delivers another scorcher weekend

Jackalope came back to Mississauga for its second edition at Celebration Square and the heat was once again merciless, roughly 35°C all weekend with no sign of letting up. On the broadcast side, Todd Richards wasn't exactly at his best but Gary Rodgers more than held it down and kept the energy where it needed to be, as he always does.

A rematch with something to prove

The storyline coming in was simple. Jake Ilardi had beaten Micky Papa at Virginia Beach just weeks earlier, with Angelo Caro rounding out the podium in third. All three were back in Mississauga and nobody needed to explain what was at stake.

Deyvid Anderson Tuesta from Peru, one of the Golden Ticket wildcards, also made the trip, a reminder that Jackalope's global reach keeps pulling in names the usual circuit misses.

Semis: Ilardi and Papa set the tone early

The semifinal format put 12 heats of 2 riders side by side in 3-minute jams with only the top 10 moving on. Ilardi came out on top of the semi standings, just ahead of Richard Tury and Papa, making things interesting heading into the final. Kristoffer Kroon and Steven Vasquez also punched their tickets through, while Canadian Ryan Lepore snuck into the top 10 to make it a local storyline as well.

Papa cements his place at home

Before the finals even started, the lineup had already shifted: Bailey Seager and Cooper Slocombe both missed the final, replaced by Chris Setinas and Kobe Crossman, except Crossman didn't show up either... Welcome to live skateboarding events.

When the dust settled, Micky Papa had done it again. A second consecutive men's street title at Mississauga, reversing the Virginia Beach result and putting Ilardi in the silver spot. Richard Tury from Slovakia grabbed bronze in what ended up being a genuinely international podium.

Papa's consistency under pressure, on home soil, in front of a crowd that was fully behind him, is becoming its own storyline within the Jackalope series. Ilardi will want another crack at him.

And honestly, that rematch can't come soon enough.
